PROUD Bracknell RFC head coach Rory Greenslade-Jones believes his side has turned the corner after they secured a fourth National Three London & South East victory in five games, writes Richard Ashton.

The Lily Hill men scored five tries to pick up a bonus point during an emphatic 34-12 home win against Westcliff on Saturday, dominating their opponents throughout the contest.

Bracknell had suffered a disastrous start to the season which saw them lose six of their opening seven games after moving from National Three South West into their current league.

And Greenslade-Jones said: “Ultimately we are finding our feet now and the results are showing that.

“It’s taken a bit of time. We’ve integrated some new players into the squad and that transition maybe took a little bit longer than I expected.

“Looking back and reflecting having lost those games, I don’t think the league is stronger, but the teams play a different style of rugby.”

He continued: “It’s been a testing time for the players and the coaches. We had to take a long, hard look at ourselves and ultimately I think we’ve turned a corner and come through it.

“I’m proud of what all the boys have done on the pitch and I’m proud of the management and what we’ve done to turn things around.

“These were testing times but it’s nice to know we can rely on our processes. You take a look at yourself and what you’re doing. Ultimately we’ve come through it and been successful and that gives a bit of self-satisfaction.”

Bracknell are ninth in the table but have moved clear of the relegation zone, and Greenslade-Jones is now looking to kick on.

He said: “Confidence is starting to build and hopefully momentum with start building. Bracknell are a confidence team and when we are confident that’s when you will see the off-loading skills, making lots of line breaks and playing some very attractive rugby.

“It’s about keeping the wheels turning and keeping the momentum building. We’ve got a really tough game next week against East Grinstead and that’s one we’ve certainly targeted."

He added: “We want to stay unbeaten until Christmas. We played Shelford away at the beginning of the season and that’s our last game before Christmas. We didn’t put in a very good performance or do ourselves justice before.

“If we can stay unbeaten beyond the Christmas period then who knows how far we can go. We’d like to be in the top half having readjusted our goals.”

Reflecting on the Westcliff success, the Welshman paid tribute to his side, highlighting the efforts of his forwards who grabbed the final try.

He beamed: “It was a very good win and it is two back-to-back performances with a bonus point. We stuck to our processes, we wore them down in the first half and ultimately in the second half we finished them off.

“This is my fourth year at Bracknell and it’s the first time I’ve ever seen a pushover try from their ball.

“It was great to see that and we’ve brought in a few props as it was an area we identified, and it’s nice for those guys after all their hard work to get their just rewards.”
