The U15s had already won the Berkshire League title for a third time as undefeated champions and were looking to end the campaign on another memorable note.

Such is Bracknell’s strength and depth they fielded two mixed teams - the Bulls and Stags - in Dorset.

They played six other club teams in a round robin format over the two days beginning with a match against each other which ended 5-5.

Stags went on to win three more games on the opening day. They ran in a string of tries and romped to a 35-0 victory against Oakmedians and a 15-5 win against local rivals Reading Abbey.

Bulls had a tougher draw on day one but overcame Tadley by 10-0 before losing to Rumney by the same scoreline.

Stags encountered more difficult opposition on day two and were also beaten 10-0 by Rumney. But they recoverd to beat Tadley before drawing their next match 10-10 against Wallingford which secured third place in their group, but not a place in the final.

Meanwhile, Bulls romped to second-day wins over Reading Abbey and Oakmedians before a 10-0 success against Cheshunt clinched second place in their group and a place in the final against Rumney.

However, Bulls found Rumney in determined mood and the Welsh club ran out 20-0 winners to take the overall title, with Bulls finishing in second spot.

Nevertheless, both Bulls and Stags came away with silverware for finishing second and third which was an impressive achievement as they were playing against other clubs’ ‘A’ teams.
