Their four points took them on to 60, seven behind second-placed Brixham and 19 adrift of runaway leaders Exmouth, but the Lily Hill men have a game in hand on the top two.

It was a particularly good performance as Bracknell trailed 10-0 at half-time after playing into a stiff breeze.

They were put on the back foot by their physical and aggressive opponents and conceded a converted try and penalty.

During this period Bracknell were also shown two yellow cards.

But, with more of the seaside air in their lungs, the visitors looked a different side in the second half.

They started to work a number of phases together, made ground on their carries and, more importantly, started to rattle their hosts.

The Bracknell’s forwards created plenty of possession for their backs who were dangerous with ball in hand.

To compound this, whenever Bracknell’s attack faltered and Bournemouth managed to get their hands on the ball they frequently kicked it back to Bracknell to allow them to start again.

Bournemouth started to crack under the pressure and the first of their three yellow cards in the second half led to a penalty which enabled George Owen to put Bracknell’s first points on the board after 57 minutes.

Further pressure saw Owen go over the line for a try, bringing the score to 10–8.

Drives by George Milligan and Giuseppe Salustri kept Bournemouth on the back foot and every one of the Bracknell forwards worked hard to overturn the mauling they had suffered in the first half.

An endless series of attacks resulted in a 66th-minute try try for Ian Burch. Receiving the ball well outside the 22, he powered his way through to give his side the lead for the first time.

Bournemouth, back two full strength after two yellow cards, finished the game strongly, pushing Bracknell back into their own 22.

Sensing a weight advantage, they turned down a possible five-metre lineout and two penalties (one in front of the posts) and backed their dominance in the scrummage.

Despite conceding a yellow card in the front row Bracknell then stole a ball against the head and in the ensuing melee held out for the win.

Fourth-placed Bracknell host third-placed Brixham at Lily Hill Park this Saturday (2.15pm ko).
