And head coach Karl Roberts admitted it was an emphatic revenge mission, with their opponents the last side to beat Crowthorne prior to a superb seven-match winning run which has sealed a top-two finish in the BB&O Championship.

He gushed: “It was good. It was frustrating to lose over there at Shire Hall (26-20) on the last play of the game and it was nice to turn that round.

“The forwards did immensely well to keep the ball going forward and there was some great interplay between people. Brad and Mike Stepney managed the game superbly and James Jarvis added a spark at scrum half.” The Crows came flying out of the blocks and took the lead inside five minutes when Mills threw a dummy and sauntered across the whitewash from 35 metres, Tom Wilson converting.

The home side’s backs were in irresistible form and they quickly extended the lead as wing James Huckle went over in the left hand corner, before the visitors enjoyed one of their few periods of attack.

However, Shire Hall were turned over on the hosts’ try line, and after Mills kicked clear, wing Dan Stanton took advantage of the bouncing ball to run in from well inside his own half.

Inside centre Mike Stepney touched down shortly after to secure the bonus point inside the opening 20 minutes, and the returning Jarvis then added his name to the scoresheet in a one-sided opening half hour.

The hosts showed no sign of letting up and moved even further ahead as No.8 Matt Elsbury went over, and Mills continued a flawless display by dotting down his second as the first half came to a close.

There was still time for the magnificent Wilson to finish off a fine try, and he kicked his seventh successful effort out of eight to make it 54-0 at the break.

The second half was a tighter affair, with the visitors showing commendable spirit, but Crowthorne captain Sam Short scored his side’s ninth try of the day as the procession continued.

Prop Adrian Lovejoy then barrelled over and George Watson also touched down as s the rampant Crows went 71-0 up on the back of another Wilson conversion.

Shire Hall put themselves on the scoresheet courtesy of a fine Richard Clarke try, but the outstanding Crows had the final say as Sean Lea rumbled over before Mills completed his treble with the last play of the game.

Crows now face a BB&O Championship title decider this Saturday when they travel to second-placed Risborough (2.15pm ko).

Crows one point ahead of Risborough in the table, having lost the corresponding fixture 15–5 in October – one of only three league defeats Roberts’ men have suffered this season.
