But the ambitious Welshman also admitted he was disappointed to miss out on a bonus point in the National Three South West clash at Lily Hill Park on Saturday.

Bracknell fell behind but recovered to take a 31–20 lead to put them on course for a much-needed win. However, the visitors from North Devon scored another try in the closing stages to leave the host sweating.

Thankfully for Greenslade-Jones, his troops withstood the pressure and ended up 34–27 winners to cement fourth place in the table.

And he told the News it was tough to keep his players motivated for the clash following the previous week’s defeat at promotion-chasing Exmouth which extinguished Bracknell’s hopes of securing a play-off spot.

“We did well to get the win but we were disappointed with the bonus point,” he explained.

“It was quite hard to get the guys up for the game as there was a bit of realisation our season could be over after our defeat at Exmouth the week before.

“But we got them going and managed to get the victory against a Barnstaple side fighting for their lives.” He added: “Barnstaple started very well and we missed a couple of early tackles. They caused us problems from set pieces and it was clear they came to kill the ball as much as possible and use spoiling tactics which resulted in five yellow cards.

“It worked for them to a certain degree, but we pulled ourselves together and managed to get the job done in the end.” Bracknell are without a league fixture this weekend, and Greenslade-Jones said: “The last six or seven weeks have been tough and intense so we are looking forward to this weekend off to recharge the batteries. We will train on Thursday then hold a bit of a team bonding session to raise morale for the rest of the season.

“The aim is to kick on when get back to action and win as many games as we can before the end of the season.”
