The loss means Finch were overtaken in the table by their hosts, with Jon Laugharne’s men finishing a disappointing 10th in the table.

Finch were without their influential skipper as Adam Barnard was absent for his wedding, meaning Tom Green took the armband for the day.

There were chances at either end in an open first half but Tom Bryant stood strong in the Finch goal to deny the hosts, whilst Ashley Cullen spurned a couple of opportunities for Finch.

It remained goalless at the break but Finch were coming under increasing pressure and Adrian Smith had to clear Ashley Cullen’s shot off the line early in the second half.

Eventually the pressure from the hosts told as they took the lead in the 57th minute when Chris Hurst fired past Bryant.

Penn thought they’d doubled the lead moments later but their celebrations were cut short by an offside flag and Laugharne reacted to the flow of the game by switching to a 4-3-3 formation.

The idea was to stem the constant wave of Penn attacks but it failed to have the desired effect as George Weller fired home a second goal midway through the half.

Finch did grab a consolation late on when Harry Swabey headed home Freddie Barron’s cross but there wasn’t enough time for Finch to grab an equaliser as the referee called time on the visitors’ season.

The result means they finish just three places above the drop zone, having been as high as fourth earlier in the season.
