The coaches went into the first round hoping for a top three position against last year’s TVJL champions, Amersham A, plus Newbury who finished third.

But B&WSC put on a superb display to finish 18 points clear of Amersham, despite a few disqualifications and a change around of team members on the final squadron relay to allow two of the youngest nine-year-old boys to compete.

Overall B&WSC achieved 15 personal best times and coach Julie Coachman said: “The atmosphere was great and it was wonderful to see all the parents in good voice. The volume poolside was something else with everyone in the stands and on deck cheering for all the swimmers. We are all very proud of the team.” Thames Valley Junior Swimming League standings after round one: Bracknell 228; Amersham A 210; Abingdon: 209; Newbury 177; Chesham 116; Amersham B 73.
