Guthrie apologises to Reading team-mates

ROYALS boss Brian McDermott praised Danny Guthrie's courage after the rebel midfielder apologised to staff and team-mates during clear-the-air talks.
Supporters have lambasted Guthrie for refusing to travel to Sunderland on Tuesday because 'his head wasn't right.'
Guthrie's actions were also heavily criticised by McDermott who felt the player had let the club down ahead of a criticial relegation battle at the Stadium of Light, which Sunderland won 3-0.
Ex-Newcastle ace Guthrie apologised to irate fans in an exclusive Reading Chronicle interview yesterday, though he fell short of explaining his reasons why he bailed out of the trip to the north east.
However, it appears the 25-year-old is eager to patch things up with his Royals colleagues and wipe the slate clean.
McDermott explained: \"Importantly, we can all put this to bed now.
\"Every person in life makes mistakes and Danny apologised to all of his teammates and the staff in a group meeting.
\"He asked me if he could speak to the entire group before training, it took a lot of courage for him to do that and he deserves respect for his reaction.
\"Now myself, the players and staff will all move on.\"
Fit-again Guthrie, who has recovered from a groin injury, could now be in line for a shock recall against Arsenal in Monday's televised clash at Madejski Stadium (8pm ko, live Sky Sports).
It would be his first start since the 1-0 defeat at Liverpool on October 20.
And in another boost for Royals, winger Jimmy Kebe could also make his comeback from a six-week injury lay-off to face Arsene Wenger's Gunners.
Reading will be looking to halt a run of five successive Premier League defeats which has left them one place off the foot of the table and six points from safety.
\"We have 22 games ahead of us and, together as one unit, we can achieve our goals for Reading Football Club and for you the supporters,\" added McDermott, who is set to sign at least two players in the January transfer window.
