READING FC are close to signing former Manchester United star John O'Shea, according to reports.
The 37-year-old defender, who has won both the Premier League and the Champions League with United, is set to leave Sunderland following the Black Cats' relegation to League One.
Royals boss Paul Clement has expressed his desire to boost his squad with players with a winning mentality following last season's disappointing season.
Reports in Sunderland suggest Clement is close to bringing O'Shea to Madejski Stadium on one-year deal.
The experienced defender, who has also been deployed as a midfielder throughout his illustrious career, would be a strong character in Reading's dressing room.
Clement has also been linked with Portsmouth defender, Matt Clarke, and is thought to be keen to sign Tommy Elphick permanently from Aston Villa following his loan spell last season.
Meanwhile, Royals' star defender Liam Moore is being tracked by Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion FC.
