READING FC academy star Jack Nolan celebrated his 17th birthday by putting pen to paper on his first professional contract today (Friday).

Nolan, a product of Royals' youth system, has been heavily involved with the Under-18 side since he turned 15.

Last season, he was involved in four Under-23 fixtures, helping Scott Marshall's side secure a play-off place in an impressive Premier League 2 campaign.

A club statement reads: " Jack also made strides on the international scene. His England Under-17 debut came against Turkey last August and he started against Italy at Aggborough in the final fixture of that St George’s Park tournament.

"He went on to feature in the same squad for high profile friendlies against Portugal, Russia and Germany – coming off the bench to score a late winner against the Germans at the New York Stadium in Rotherham."

Royals have not specified the length of Nolan's contract and the club cannot be contacted for clarification.
