FORMER Reading FC striker Matej Vydra will face a late fitness test ahead of Royals' clash with Derby County tomorrow (3pm ko).

The Czech forward has been in prolific goal-scoring form for the promotion-chasing Rams this season, bagging 18 goals in 31 appearances.

However, Derby boss Gary Rowett revealed he is sweating over the fitness of his 25-year-old star forward ahead of tomorrow's match at Madejski Stadium.

Vydra struggled for goals with Reading during a season-long loan from Watford in 2015-16.

He netted just three times in 31 Championship appearances and was often criticised by Royals fans.

However, he did score six goals in five FA Cup appearances that campaign, helping Brian McDermott's side reach the quarter finals where they were beaten by Crystal Palace.

Rowett's injury problems don't end there either as one-time England striker David Nugent could also miss out as he recovers from a recent knock.

Meanwhile, Reading go into the clash as underdogs after just one win from their previous 12 league games leaves them four points above the drop zone.

Jaap Stam's side, who drew 1-1 at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night, have not won a Saturday home game in the Championship since beating Wigan Athletic on April 29, 2017.

But Royals' boss, who is appealing for unity from supporters, could welcome back midfielder John Swift from a hamstring injury after a six week lay-off.

However, skipper Paul McShane, Joseph Mendes, Callum Harriott, Stephen Quinn and Jordan Obita all remain sidelined.

On-loan Derby striker Chris Martin is also prevented from featuring against his parent club as part of his loan deal.
