FORMER Reading FC Under 23 manager Martin Kuhl has been appointed assistant manager at Torquay United.

The 52-year-old left the Royals after spending seven years in the role and was replaced by Steve Marshall.

He recently ended up working on a building site in Reading while looking for a new job in coaching.

That search ended on Wednesday) when the ex-Portsmouth and Birmingham player was named assistant to new boss Gary Owers at struggling Torquay who are bottom of the National League.

Owers, 48, replaces Kevin Nicholson, who was the first boss to be sacked in England’s top five divisions this season when he left on August 17.

Gulls’ general manager, Geoff Harrop said: “Gary and Martin emerged as our choice from a very competent and experienced pool of applicants.”
