READING FC duo Chris Gunter and Dave Edwards helped Wales secure a maximum six points with World Cup 2018 qualifying victories over Moldova and Austria in the past week.

Gunter started and Edwards came off the bench as Wales won 2-0 in Moldova last night, with ex-Royal Hal Robson-Kanu netting the first.

Gunter and Edwards also helped Wales keep their Group D hopes alive with a 1-0 win over Austria in Cardiff on Saturday thanks to a Ben Woodburn goal.

Back-to-back wins saw Wales leapfrog the Republic of Ireland, who overlooked Reading’s Paul McShane and Liam Kelly into second place in Group D.

Royals striker Jón Daði Böðvarsson started for Iceland in a 2-0 win against Ukraine in Group I on Tuesday, both goals coming from ex-Reading star Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Last weekend Bodvarsson was on the opposing side to Royals keeper Anssi Jaakkola as Finland defeated Iceland 1-0 in Tampere. Bodvarsson was introduced from the bench, but Finland held on.

Adrian Popa came off the bench last Friday as Romania defeated 10-man Armenia 1-0 in Group E. Both Popa and Jaakkola were unused subs on Tuesday night.
