DAVID Edwards has joined Reading FC from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a two-year deal.

The 31-year-old midfielder becomes the second player to leave Molineux for the Madejski Stadium this summer following Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, who scored in today's 2-0 victory at Birmingham.

Edwards becomes Jaap Stam's sixth summer signing in all after Reading are thought to have agreed a fee with Wolves in the region of £1m for the Wales international.

Edwards made 308 appearances for Wolves and scored 44 goals after almost a decade with the club.

Stam wil be hoping Edwards can add plenty of experience to his midfield in the weeks to come.

Royals chief executive, Ron Gourlay, said: “It is always so important to strike the right balance between youth and experience within a squad.

"With more than 500 career appearances to his name already - earned with both club and country - Dave adds experience in abundance to this group of players.

"Crucially, he is hungry for more success as a Royal and we look forward to welcoming him to the club after he returns from international duty with Wales."

Edwards will now wear the No.16 shirt, and Reading director of football, Brian Tevreden, added: “I am very pleased to welcome a midfielder with proven Championship and Premier League pedigree into our group and, as a player who has been a key part in the cut and thrust of many campaigns with Wolves, I am confident he will be a valuable addition to the squad here at Reading.”
