Ryan Mason has been inundated with well-wishes on social media after being forced to retire at the age of 26.

The Hull midfielder, who suffered a fractured skull in January 2017 in a clash with Chelsea’s Gary Cahill, announced on Tuesday morning that, following expert medical advice, he was not able to continue his career.

Mason, who started his career at Tottenham, and had loan stints at Yeovil, Doncaster, Millwall, Lorient and Swindon before joining the Tigers in summer 2016, won one England cap, against Italy in March 2015.
