LONDON Irish coach, Mike Catt, has been awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours List.

Catt, 38, played in two World Cup finals for England during his illustrious career, winning one and losing one, and had 75 international caps by the time he retired early in 2010.

At club level he started his career with Bath back in 1992 before joining Irish as a player in 2004.

The South African-born back went on to be named Guinness Premiership Player of the Season in 2006 and in 2009 he became the oldest player to play in a Premiership final at the age of 37.

Catt also played once for the British and Irish Lions and after retiring in 2010 he was appointed attack coach at London Irish, a position he still holds.

"I am delighted and honoured to have been awarded an OBE," he said.

"I have been fortunate to have had an enjoyable and successful career in rugby and to now be recognised in such a way makes me feel very privileged.

"I would like to thank my family along with everyone who has supported and encouraged me throughout my career."
