GREIG Tonks has urged London Irish to return to winning ways when they visit his former club Edinburgh in the European Challenge Cup on Saturday (7.35pm).
Exiles have suffered four Aviva Premiership and two Anglo-Welsh Cup defeats – most recently a 39-15 reverse at Gloucester – since their stunning 44-7 win at Stade Francais back in October, and Tonks is hoping a return to the competition can inspire a change of fortunes.
He said: “We’ve got a positive game plan this week and there is a real hunger within this group to get back to winning ways.
“Hopefully the weather holds up this weekend and we can assert ourselves on the game by playing some fast free-flowing rugby."
Tonks, 28, scored six tries in 79 appearances during his four seasons prior to joining Exiles at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.
And he said: “I’m very much looking forward to this weekend’s game and I have some good mates within the Edinburgh camp, so it will be good to catch up with them post-match.
“I have some good memories from my time there and it will be interesting to go up against them as an opposing player.”
Tonks is also hoping some solid club performances can help him regain a place in the Scotland side, having helped them beat Australia in the summer.
He revealed: “I really enjoyed the experience of playing for Scotland and I want to get back to playing for my country.
“For now, I’m just focused on putting in good performances for London Irish and if I’m playing well for Irish then the rest will follow.”
