The Moles suffered their second league loss in four matches on Saturday as they fell to a 2-1 reverse at home to in-form Thame United, before drawing 1-1 with Wootton Bassett Town on Wednesday evening.

Josh Howell opened the scoring for Binfield on Saturday before Steve Robertson struck late on to salvage a point for Wootton.

On Saturday, early goals from Luke Ricketts and Ben Gray were enough to give the visitors victory, though the Moles did pull one goal back late on through Carl Withers.

Since Binfield recorded a victory at Thame in September, the visitors had won eight games on the bounce and made it nine as they gained revenge on the Moles.

Roger Herridge’s side were second-best throughout and fall to fifth in Hellenic League Premier Division.

It took 18 minutes for the visitors to take the lead, when Ricketts headed home from close range after Gray had escaped down the left and sent a superb cross in.

Gray turned from creator to goalscorer five minutes later as he played free and his effort was deflected past Dan Weait in the Binfield goal to put the visitors 2-0 ahead.

Binfield enjoyed large periods of possession for the rest of the half but failed to trouble Josh Cockerill in the Thame goal.

The second-half continued in the same vein, with the visitors seemingly happy to sit in and let Binfield try and break them down.

Dan West was a constant threat on the break for Thame but he failed to take advantage of a number of good positions he reached.

Gray then went close to wrapping the game up in the 73rd minute but he fired straight at Weait having dribbled past a couple of players.

It looked like that could come back to haunt the visitors as Withers reduced in the arrears with ten minutes remaining.

The midfielder beat Cockerill with a low left-footed drive to set up a grandstand finale.

But Binfield couldn’t find an answer in the final 10 minutes and were left to reflect on a below-par performance that sees them drop below Thame in the table.

The Moles travel to Wootton Bassett Town tonight (Wednesday), before visiting Newbury on Saturday (3pm) in league action.
