The Robins scored two goals in two minutes in the 76th and 77th minute, but a Sam Jenner strike five minutes later ensured the Wiltshire League Premier Division club progressed to the next round at the expense of Ed Carpenter’s men.

The hosts had the perfect chance to go ahead when Edward Wilkins rounded James Hawtree in the Bracknell goal, but Grant Goodband got back in time to clear the ball off the line.

It was an open game with chances at either end, and Ryan Coupland fired over moments later as the Robins looked to seize the initative.

But Wilkins was a constant threat and he struck the crossbar with a header that had Hawtree beaten as the hosts continued to threaten.

Martin Bradshaw had a fine effort tipped away for Bracknell but it was Malmesbury who took the lead with a goal either side of half-time by Sam Parker.

In the third minute of added time, he fired a low drive through several bodies and past Hawtree to put the hosts ahead.

It was a nightmare end to the half for Bracknell and the second period started in the same vein as Parker netted again to double the lead.

A cross to the far post wasn’t dealt with, and Parker was on hand to head home to make it 2-0.

It could’ve been game over moments later when Wilkins found himself one-on-one with Hawtree, but the latter came out on top to keep the Robins in the contest.

Carpenter sent on Jake White and Ebenezer Opoko-Ware in a bid to salvage the tie and his change made instant dividends as Bracknell found a way back into the game.

White sent in a cross that was acrobatically finished by Shane Cooper-Clark to give Bracknell a lifeline, and they made it count less than 60 seconds later.

White turned from provider to goalscorer as he beat Josh Langley in the hosts’ goal to bring the Robins level.

The Robins were now in the ascendancy as they searched for a goal that would complete the comeback, but a deflected strike from Jenner changed the outcome of the game.

It was hard on Bracknell, who had fought back to level the game but now found themselves facing elimination.

Wilkins was dismissed for an incident that occurred during the home side’s celebrations but it didn’t help the Robins, who couldn’t find a way past 10-man Malmesbury.

The Robins also ended with 10 men as Goodband was dismissed in added time.

Bracknell are not in action this weekend, but host Chinnor in the Flying Press Floodlit Cup on Tuesday, October 14 (7.45pm).
