Steven Fairchild collided with Sumas striker Luke Scope, knocking himself unconcious and requiring an ambulance to be called to take him to Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Play was suspended for 25 minutes whilst both sides waited for the paramedics to arrive, with Wokingham leading 4-2 at the time.

With just one minute and forty seconds remaining, both managers agreed to let the result stand but a Hellenic League committee must ratify the result before it is made official.

Wokingham were in command from the early stages and they took the lead when Scope grabbed his first goal of the new campaign after capitalising on a mix-up in the Henley defence to put the visitors ahead.

The lead was doubled in the 30th minute when a Jack Gibbs corner was headed home by James Charlton to put the Sumas in total control.

It had been a dominant display from Dan Bateman’s men but they let their opponents back into the game just six minutes into the second-half.

Asa Povey sent a deep cross into the box and Sean Moore was on hand to powerfully head home to reduce the deficit.

But the Sumas had been dominant throughout and regained their two goal lead when George Dance volleyed home from a Tom Williams cross in the 70th minute.

It was 4-1 soon after as Scope grabbed his second of the game, before Warren Baxter replied late on for Henley.

It was then a sour ending to the game but Fairchild was released on Saturday evening and sent home to recover.

Wokingham travel to Brackley Town Development on Saturday (3pm).
