The visitors had recorded successive 2-0 wins and started the match full of confidence as their hosts failed to get out of their half in the early stages.

Harry Swarbey went close to giving Finch the lead but Dan Farrell in the Brackley goal held him off to keep the scores level.

Sam Green then came close with a header form a corner that was just too high with Farrell beaten.

It remained level at the break but it was Finch who looked more likely to make something happen with Swarbey a constant threat to the Brackley backline.

The best chance of the game for the visitors came midway through the second-half when Fred Barron was sent clear but as the keeper advanced, Barron slid it wide of him and wide of the right-hand post and the hosts survived.

And Finch were made to pay for their missed opportunities in the 78th minute when Matt Johnson received the ball on the edge of the area and fired home to give Brackley the lead.

It was harsh on the visitors who had created the better opportunities throughout the match but had lacked composure and quality in the final third to truly trouble Farrell in the hosts’ goal.

There was one final opportunity for Jon Laugharne’s men to grab a point but Luke Axton-Hall couldn’t hit the target.

Finch were left to reflect on their first loss of the season in a game that they’d had the upper hand in for long periods, but couldn’t find the goal.

Finchampstead will look to bounce back this Saturday when they travel to Chalfont Wasps (3pm).
