Barratt, 18, became the first contracted Robins player in four years last season after a string of impressive performances drew attention to the midfielder.

But the winger is looking to move up and is currently on trial at newly-promoted Southern League side Slough Town, as Neil Baker and Jon Underwood take a look at him.

Barratt trained twice with Slough last week, and then played the second-half in their 4-1 defeat to Windsor. He was involved against Marlow on Tuesday and will make another appearance at Maidenhead on Saturday.

And although Robins boss Ed Carpetner will have to replace the influential midfielder, he was happy to try and help Barratt find a suitable move.

“Sam’s a great player and was very open with me that he wanted to make the step up,” said Carpenter. “I know Jon from my time here so I asked them if they wanted to have a look at him and they’re doing that at the moment.

“You can’t stand in the way of a player at this level so it’s just about helping him make the right decision. It’s got to be a realistic step up where he’ll play football regularly.” Barratt joined the Robins at youth level when signed by then manager Steve Jenner.

He has been nurtured accordingly to help him express his potential and Carpenter belives the club can be proud if he goes on to be a success.

“For me, it’s what football is all about,” added the Robins boss. “Of course you want to win every game you play and have a strong squad, but seeing players make the step up is brilliant.

“If Sam goes to Slough at just 18 then the potential is there to move up again and that’s something that Bracknell Town must be very proud of.

“I felt a bit sorry for Sam as he came on at half-time on Saturday and Slough lost 4-1. It can be difficult to make an impact when it’s a bad day at the office for everyone.

“But he’s a bright talent and it’s up to Jon and Neil to decide if they wish to pursue their initial interest in him.”
