Nebbett and fellow joint-boss Danny Oliphant took the shock decision to quit the club on Thursday afternoon.

It is believed there was no pressure on the duo from Robins hierarchy and that the decision to leave Larges Lane was purely their own.

The pair led Bracknell to promotion back to the Hellenic Premier last season.

The team struggled during the early stages of this campaign but finished strongly by winning 12 of their last 14 fixtures.

However, Robins suffered double cup disappointment in the past week after losing to Brimscombe & Thrupp in the Supplementary Cup final on Saturday.

They were also beaten 2-1 at home by Division One East rivals Wokingham & Emmbrook in the Reading Senior Cup semi final at Larges Lane on Tuesday night.

Nebbett told the News earlier this week: "The boys have got to learn from that. Where did it go wrong and why did it go wrong? We’ve got plenty of time to learn now.

“I said to them with two games left that we can come ninth and get to two cup finals, or we can come 13th and not get in anything, but that’s football, that’s the way it goes.

“Before the last four games the boys were all buzzing and discussing next season, but that’s a bit of a wake up call for them.

“They’ve got to realise things don’t just come to you in football. If the boys aren’t hurting then there’s something wrong.” He added: “They’re a great bunch of lads and if they stick together there’s no telling what they could do.

“We’re a good team, I’ve been saying that all year. They need to play with the same attitude, hunger and desire every single time.” Robins secretary Darrell Freeland said the decision of Nebbett and Oliphant to step down came 'out of the blue' and that no moves are in place to find a replacement.

The pair, who also played for Bracknell Town, have a long-running association with the Larges Lane club and were believed to be doing an excellent job on a budget far smaller than that of their rivals.

Freeland said in a statement: "This news has come completely out of the blue, however increasing work and family commitments for both Nebs and Danny mean neither can give the time needed to manage the Robins.

"Albeit that we are saddened by this news, we respect their decisions and thank them greatly for their efforts for us during the past two seasons." Freeland continued: "The committee have not yet met to decide where we go from here so a further announcement will follow in due course.

"For now, we felt it right and proper to make everybody aware of the situation and to thank both Nebs and Danny for their endeavours at Larges Lane."
