BINFIELD'S title hopes were all but ended by a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Hellenic Premier Division leaders Marlow on Saturday.

Former Mole Ian Davies came back to haunt his old club by opening the scoring in the 16th minute.

The visitors never really got a foothold in the game and conceded a second to Simeon Howell after 34 minutes.

Ray Spence netted a third for Marlow before Carl Davies pulled a goal back from the penalty spot. Spence doubled his tally three minutes from time to leave Binfield 13 points adrift of the league leaders.

Ascot United comfortably beat AFC Hinksey 4-0 in the Hellenic Supplementary Cup first round, with all four goals coming in the second period.

Ian Brooks' shot from the edge of the area set the Yellamen on their way five minutes after the restart.

A Rob Saunders strike and a late brace from Jack Smillie, including an 86th-minute penalty, sealed Ascot's passage into the next round.

Heavy rain on Friday night rendered three of the local football matches unplayable.

Wokingham & Emmbrook's Premier Division match at Cheltenham Saracens was called off while the Larges Lane pitch at Bracknell Town was waterlogged for their encounter with Henley Town in Division One East.

The Robins are due to host Headington Amateurs in the Supplementary Cup on Tuesday while Wokingham travel to Flackwell Heath for their Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy quarter-final.

In the Combined Counties Premier Division, Sandhurst Town's match at Molesey was also postponed.

Eversley & California conceded in the last minute to go down 2-1 to Sheerwater in Division One.

Matt Baker scored an equaliser but a stoppage-time strike from Dan Sharpe sealed maximum points for the Sheers.
