Waiting game: Ascot striker Jon Bennett

ASCOT United could be boosted by a full strength side for Saturday's FA Vase tie at Combined Counties Premier side Colliers Wood United (3pm ko).

The Yellamen go into the match on the back of a four-game unbeaten run and will welcome back Sam Wadieh and Joe Yeates.

However, they will have to wait on the fitness of Jon Bennett, who missed the game against Binfield due to a hamstring injury sustained in Saturday's win over Holyport.

Ascot United assistant manager Paul McGrotty, pictured right, lauded the strength in depth of the squad after they held in-form Binfield to a 0-0 draw on Monday, despite missing the spine of the team.

He said: "It's the strongest squad since I've been at the club that's for sure. We're going into Saturday full of confidence.

"We had three wins on the spin and are now four unbeaten, which is something we've not done for a couple of seasons.

"That comes from the players but also having a settled squad. It's really good at the moment, there's a great vibe around the club."

Colliers Wood have beaten Badshot Lea, Camberley, Lingfield and were awarded a home win against Old Woodstock Town to progress to the

third round of the Vase.

They lost 4-3 to bottom side Hartley Wintney in the league last weekend, but McGrotty said: "I'm not looking into their league form because their cup results have been really good. I don't know whether they play a different side or something or big players come back for cup games."

He added: "We're not afraid of anyone. The way we're playing at the monmet and with our squad, we can go to places and feel confident, as we proved against Binfield."

The third round of the Vase is unchartered territory for Ascot United and can only help to raise the profile of the club, according to chairman Mike Harrison.

He said: "The management and the players are working hard and we are starting to see the results.

"I thought we put in another good performance against Binfield and fully deserved a point. It sets us up nicely for the Colliers Wood game which everyone is looking forward to.

"Make no mistake it will be another hard game but if we play to our potential, we stand a good chance.

"Making progress in a national competition has been exciting for everyone at the club, even some of the youngsters and parents were asking about it last weekend.

"We are taking a 50-seater coach so we will have some support for the team."

He added: "The prize money we have won so far is helpful but the real benefit to the club is the fact that the community in Ascot is starting to take to notice and the management, the team and the club are all in this together. Ascot is a good place to be at the

moment."
