ASCOT United Ladies reached their first ever cup final with a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over higher league opposition Bracknell Town Reserves on Sunday.

Substitute Amy Martin scored the winning penalty in the 4-1 win to send Ascot into the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup final.

The ladies went into the game as underdogs with Bracknell playing in the division above, but the hosts more than matched their opponents and took the tie to penalties after a goalless 120 minutes. The first half was evenly matched with Bracknell's best effort coming from a free-kick, which was tipped round the post by Ascot's goalkeeper Jayne Rogers at full stretch.

The hosts' best chance came from a Stephanie Fettes corner which was volleyed over by Annabelle Evans.

Ascot continued to work the keeper but as the game reached the last quarter, they were noticeably tired and were forced to sit deep and defend.

However, captain Claire Roddy alongside Evans worked tirelessly protecting the back four and centre backs Lauren Broadhurst and Luci Smith were in no mood to give Bracknell's forward line any encouragement.

Even striker Fettes was doing her bit for the team with a spectacular acrobatic clearance off the line from a free-kick that had everyone beaten.

Bracknell were the stronger team in extra-time but couldn't find that all-important goal as Ascot stood firm for the penalty shoot-out. Players' player of the match and goalkeeper Rogers saved Bracknell's first spot kick after Claire Roddy gave Ascot the lead. Lauren Broadhurst and Jasmine Warren both found the net to make it 3-1 and Martin held her nerve for the decisive penalty.
