PROLIFIC Charlie Oakley scored twice to take his tally for the season to 28 goals in just 23 appearances as Sandhurst Town eased past AFC Aldermaston 3-0 in Division One East of the Hellenic League, writes Richard Ashton.

Both sides had shots from distance early on, but Aldermaston goalkeeper Kevin Butcher was the first to be tested when he had to punch clear a Dan Gosling free-kick.

The home side did take the lead, however, in the 23rd minute. Sam Green burst down the wing and sent a diagonal ball into the path of Oakley, with the striker finishing calmly to make it 1-0.

Oakley had a couple more chances before the break, but while the Fizzers continued to dominate, they could not add to their lead before half time.

It took just four minutes of the second period for Sandhurst to move further in front, though, Oakley bagging his second, and they put the game to bed on the hour mark when good work from Freddie Barron and Bobby Mitchell set-up Richard Hughes to make it 3-0.

Aldermaston continued to battle and almost grabbed a consolation when Liam Tackley’s shot went over the bar, while at the other end, substitute Jamie Barrett and Conor Harlowe linked up well but to no avail in trying to add a fourth goal for the hosts.

Victory lifts Sandhurst Town to fourth in the table, with the Fizzers travelling to Eversley & California in the Aldershot Senior Cup next Tuesday (7.45pm).

  • ASCOT United, who sit 15th in the Premier Division table, return to action for the first time in three weeks when they travel to Tuffley Rovers this coming Saturday (3pm).
  • EVERSLEY & California came from behind to earn a point in their 1-1 Combined Counties League Division One draw at Farleigh Rovers on Saturday.

A Louis Blake penalty put the home side in front on the hour mark, but Nicholas Cooper’s equaliser secured a share of the spoils for the 10-man Boars, Lewis Robson receiving his marching orders. Eversley & California remain eighth in the table and host Staines Llamas this Saturday (3pm).
