STEVE TURNER has revealed that Datchet Village Reserves are targeting success in the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup this season.

Datchet beat Finchampstead Athletic Reserves 5-1 at home in round two thanks to goals from Fernando, Ricky Saunders, Jack Boddy, Chris Georghiou plus an own goal.

The victory maintains their perfect winning start to the season and Turner believes their superior fitness was key in reaching the third round of the competition.

The Datchet manager told the Observer: “It was an excellent result. Finchampstead are a really tough side to play against so the scoreline was not a true reflection of the game.

“In the first 20-30 minutes we were up against it because they’re a really tough side, but it was probably the best we’ve played all season so eventually we took over.

“We scored a couple of goals in the last five minutes so it made it look like an easy win, but actually it was a lot tougher.

“Overall we were definitely the better side, but in the first half Finch were really in it.

“We’ve worked a lot on our fitness and it paid off in the second-half. Finch tired a little and we seemed to get on top.”

Turner added: “The general aim is to win everything, but every club will say that.

“There are only two cup competitions this season and the main priority is the county cup. The club has three teams and as a whole we’re trying to win a county cup this year, that’s our top target.

“It’s always tough in the county cups because you don’t know the sides you will come up against. You could play as far afield as Milton Keynes or Newbury.

“I feel we’ve got a good squad but we will have to wait and see who we come up against.

"We're undefeated for the season with four wins and quite a healthy goal advantage, so it's all good at the moment."
