WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook continued their fine start to the Hellenic League Division One East season with a gutsy 2-1 win against Milton United at Lowther Road on Saturday.
It was a fourth win in five games for Dan Bateman’s Sumas and saw the fourth-placed side bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to unbeaten Penn & Tylers Green in their previous league outing.
The home side went in front on the quarter-of-an-hour mark when Sam Lawrence’s effort found the back of the net.
Their Oxfordshire-based opponents hit back five minutes later, however, Marty Hardwick levelling the contest.
Chances came and went at both ends, but the two sides went into the break at 1-1.
The decisive moment of the game came in the 70th minute, as Josh Pearson collected a delightful through ball from Lawrence before firing home.
And Sumas were able to hang on to keep their good run going.
Wokingham host Sandhurst Town on Saturday (3pm).
