BINFIELD have been left bitterly disappointed after taking just one point from their Bank Holiday fixtures.

The Moles had seen an encouraging start to the new campaign but were brought back to earth when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Highmoor Ibis on Saturday, followed by a disastrous 6-1 hiding at Bracknell on Monday.

Roger Herridge’s men went ahead against Highmoor thanks to a fine goal from Josh Miller in the 24th minute.

Grant Kemp went close to increasing the lead before the visitors struck twice to turn the game around.

Mitchell Parker raced onto a long clearance from keeper Aaron Watkins to beat Liam Vaughan, back in goal after rejoining the club from Basingstoke Town.

Shortly afterwards, the Reading-based side struck again, this time from Trevor Mutero, who was first to react when the ball came back off the post.

Highmoor had the better of the second-half exchanges with Parker a constant threat and looked the more likely side to score the next goal, but the Binfield defence managed to hold out.

The home side lost Josh Smith after a clash of heads and he was later taken to hospital for a check-up.

But then the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Nick Grosvenor brought down Miller just outside the area and, being the last man, was shown the red card.

The Moles went searching for the equaliser and were rewarded in the 71st minute through Josh Howell, who fired in a 25-yard free-kick which Watkins got a hand to without being able to keep it out.

Parker had a chance to grab a late winner and Highmoor’s frustration in not winning the game boiled over in the closing stages with Austin Best and Jerome Coultress both being sent off, leaving them with just eight men at the final whistle.

Binfield are away to Woodley United at Rivermoor Stadium on Saturday (3pm) and host Ascot United at Hill Farm Lane on Monday (7.45pm).
