A DEVASTATING four-goal first-half haul by Brimscombe and Thrupp helped them cruise to a 5-1 Hellenic League Premier Division victory at Ascot United on Saturday.

The visitors made a flying start when after just two and a half minutes, Ollie Pitt’s long-range effort crashed back off the crossbar and Ed Major was on hand to plant the rebound past Matt Hill.

At the other end, James Goodey’s shot for Ascot was tipped over by Louis Skyers in the home side’s first attack, but the Yellamen levelled on 14 minutes.

Firstly, Josh Dillon’s shot was turned wide for a corner after good work from Goodey and from the resultant corner, Jack Smillie swung the ball across and Louis Bouwers’ towering header went in.

Brimscombe went back in front three minutes later when Jack Smith fired past Hill, and Major made it 3-1 when he blasted home.

Ascot defender Gavin Branch then saw his own clearance strike Hill’s post eight minutes before the interval, but the visitors added a fourth in first-half injury time when Pitt converted a penalty after handball from an initial Brimscombe free-kick.

The second half was less damaging for the home side, although Brimscombe added a fifth in the 63rd minute. Hill made another double save – this time from Deakin – before Pitt was on hand to slot the loose ball into the top right-hand corner.

With the visitors still in the ascendancy, Jones then saw his raking left-footed effort crash back off the right hand post on 75 minutes, and while Ascot rarely threatened – Bouwers’ mistimed header which bounced off the top of the crossbar and over for a goal-kick their nearest effort – Pitt was guilty of missing a golden chance for number six as the clock ran down.
