Bracknell Town battered bottom-of-the-table Burnham 7-0 on Monday to stay second in the Hellenic League Premier Division standings, writes Dave Wright.

The game was over as a contest with less than five minutes on the clock, as by then the Robins were two goals to the good with Adam Cornell heading in Jamie McClurg’s free-kick and then TJ Bohane turning home Seb Bowerman’s cross for the first of his three goals.

Manager Mark Tallentire said: “We started excellently, we caught them cold and before they knew it we were two up. That set the tone for the game.

“They (Burnham) kept their shape, but we had that little bit of guile about us and I always felt we could open them up.

“It was an impressive performance from the lads with everybody contributing. You could see the gulf between the two clubs in the finishing.”

The Robins continued to dominate the first half with their keeper, Chris Grace, virtually a spectator.

Their third goal came on in the 39th minute from a Bowerman penalty after Kensley Maloney had been brought down.

Burnham, beaten three times at home by Bracknell already this season, did come slightly more into the game in the second half, but their overworked defence had no answer to the Robins’ pace and power.

It became 4-0 on 50 minutes when Bowerman’s cross from the left was fired home by McClurg.

Four minutes later Bohane netted a well-taken fifth and he completed his hat-trick shortly afterwards.

Substitute Gavin Smith scored just before the final whistle to put the Robins in seventh heaven.

In the process, Bracknell took their goal tally in all competitions (32 games) past the 100 mark, while Burnham conceded their 100th goal in just 23 league games.

The game attracted another good crowd of more than 150 to Larges Lane.

“The pleasing thing for me is that looking around we are seeing new supporters here,” commented Tallentire.

“The reason for that is that we are playing some good football and we are winning.

“This is a new era for the club and people want to watch us. I am sure we will get a few more people coming in the weeks ahead.”

Bracknell face 14th-placed Highmoor Ibis at the Rivermoor Stadium in Scours Lane, West Reading, on Saturday (3pm) seeking revenge for the 2-0 defeat they suffered in August when they were using Sandhurst Town’s Bottom Meadow ground as their temporary home base.
