BINFIELD FC slumped to a 2-1 home defeat to in-form Highworth Town at Hill Farm Lane on Saturday.

Moles were slow out of the blocks and the visitors cashed-in when Aaron Ferris fired them ahead from a Fabian McCarthy assist.

Roger Herridge’s hosts fought back while playing some of their best football of the season.

But they received a blow after the break when a Jon Davoile strike took a deflection and went in to put Highworth 2-0 up.

Again, Moles refused to lie down hopes of a comeback were raised when Matt Jones pulled one back with 65 minutes gone.

Sadly, Binfield were reduced to 10 men soon after when Alex Walton conceded a penalty and was also dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Highworth’s Chris Taylor missed the target from the resulting spot-kick, but Binfield were unable to find an equaliser despite a series of late opportunities.

The defeat leaves Binfield eighth in the Hellenic Premier table. They return to action of Tuesday, December 27 when they host Ascot United (7.45pm ko).

Wokingham & Emmbrook

WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook returned to Hellenic Division One East action after a fortnight’s break with a 2-0 defeat at AFC Aldermaston.

Sumas were unlucky not to score in a bright opening spell when they hit the Aldermaston woodwork on three occasions.

The hosts were also cursing their luck a minute before the break when Lee Wheeler’s penalty was saved by Sean Woodward after Martin King had been tripped in the box.

But the Atoms did break the deadlock five minutes into the second half when a Karl Hanks cross was headed home by recent signing, Joe Cummuskey.

And Hanks was involved again when the home side doubled their lead four minutes later after working his way into the Sumas area and finding Dan Alliston whose cross was converted by Kai Parton-Edey.

The visitors struggled to find a way back into the match and Aldermaston held on to climb to fourth in the table.

Wokingham, meanwhile, drop down to 11th place ahead of a Boxing Day trip to Finchampstead (2pm).

Eversley & California

EVERSLEY & California made it back-to-back wins in Combined Counties League Division One with a 4-1 home victory against promotion-chasing Bagshot on Saturday.

Boars had to do it the hard way after falling behind to an early Bagshot goal and then seeing Jacob Exton forced off with a dislocated shoulder.

But the hosts re-grouped and levelled just before the break through in-form Brad Brown and then went in front after the restart thanks to a Lewis Robson goal.

Bagshot’s hopes were dashed soon after when a player was red carded for using foul and abusive language towards a match official.

Further goals from player-assistant manager Steve Lynch and Henry Davies sealed the victory for Boars to leave them sixth in they table. They travel to struggling Frimley Green on Tuesday (11.30am).
