ASCOT United crashed 4-0 at home to Hellenic League leaders Thame on Saturday, just four days after losing 3-2 to them at the ASM Stadium.

The visitors were well worth a 2-0 lead at half-time, although it was defensive howlers which gifted them both goals.

Luke Wilson lost possession in the second minute and David Lynn’s long-range shot flew into the top right-hand corner.

Ascot continued to come under pressure, with Lynton Goss seeing his effort tipped around the post and Dan West should have done better with the goal at his mercy after 11 minutes,.

It came as no real surprise when the Yellamen fell further in arrears after 22 minutes.

Yasin Allam’s attempted header back to Carl Dennison lacked pace, and Goss rounded Dennison, only to be brought him down by the keeper. Goss picked himself up to convert the spot kick.

Allam’s misery was compounded when he limped off on the stroke of a half-time.

The second half was largely a non-event except for two further goals.

Tom Ashworth ghosted in to sweep a first-time effort wide of Dennison into the bottom corner after 65 minutes. Three minutes later, West capped a neat move with an accurate finish into the right-hand corner.

Like they had in the first, Ascot created just one chance in the half – and that came just before the end when Louis Gilpin was thwarted by a good block on the line.

Meanwhile, Yellamen lost 1-0 at home to Brimscombe & Thrupp in the Hellenic Floodlit Cup on Tuesday night.

The only goal came in stoppage time from an Ollie Pitt penalty, which had been conceded by keeper Carl Dennison.

Earlier, cup holders Ascot had chances to win the game with new signing Gavin James among those unable to convert them.

Ascot return to league action this Saturday when they make the short trip to Bracknell on Saturday (3pm).
