ROGER Herridge was singing in the rain after seeing Binfield come from 2-0 at half-time to record an excellent 5-3 win at Longlevens, writes Dave Wright.

“We showed good character,” said the Moles manager following last Saturday's rousing victory. “It’s not an easy place to go to play, especially in the terrible conditions we had on Saturday.

“You couldn’t play too much football on the pitch. Coming out for the second half I started to wonder that if the rain keeps on, the game would be abandoned.”

Moles trailed 2-0 at the break, pulled back level, only to fall behind again to a goal they claim should not have been allowed.

Herridge explained: “They came down our end and AJ (Alex Luis) was adamant the ball went about two feet out of play, so he stopped, but their fella continued, pulled the ball back and they scored.

“So despite all our hard work we were behind again. We had to do it all over again, but I felt we just had that bit of quality.”

Liam Ferdinand bagged a hat-trick to take his season’s tally to 23 goals, with centre-back Lewis Leonetti adding the other two.

Herridge commented: “It was good to see Ferdy back among the goals and he could have had more.

“In the first half, Ferdy, Knighty (James Knight) and Sean Moore all missed good chances and the Longlevens keeper also made some great saves.

“So it was certainly a frustrated dressing room at half time and at 2-0 down we knew it was going to be a tough ask in the second half.

“But we were top drawer, we worked very hard to come back and win like we did.”

Seventh-placed Binfield host the fifth club, Highworth, at Hill Farm Lane this Saturday (3pm).

Goalkeeper Garry Aulsberry has joined Henley Town, with Binfield waiving the official seven-day approach.
