FINCHAMPSTEAD put in a brave display but were ultimately beaten 3-1 by Hellenic League Division One East table-toppers Penn & Tylers Green on Saturday.

The hosts had an early chance when Chace Jewell set up Danny Blatchford, although he was unable to hit the target.

Jewell himself then screwed a shot wide, while at the other end, Penn were denied by a Garry Callaway defensive header and Casey Bocarro shot wide from a free kick.

The leaders went in front shortly before the half hour when Fred Tripp netted from the penalty spot, and although Blatchford had an opportunity, Finch were unable to level before the break.

Things got worse for Finchampstead on the hour mark when Bocarro lashed into the top corner, and any hopes of a comeback were all but ended when they were reduced to 10 men following Jon Malone’s red card shortly after.

Tripp made it 3-0 on 82 minutes, before Harry Swabey scored a consolation penalty for Finchampstead as time ran down.

Finchampstead travel to Rayners Lane this Saturday (3pm).

  • ALEXANDER Penny scored twice and Maurice Black, Charlie Horwood and Sean Delfosse also hit the target as Sandhurst Town hammered Wantage Town Reserves 5-0.

The Fizzers have been re-instated into the Floodlit Cup at the expense of Woodley United.

  • WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook host unbeaten Woodley United at Lowther Road on Saturday (2.15pm).
  • BRAD Brown and James Osler were on the scoresheet as Eversley & California drew 2-2 at Chessington United in Division One of the Combined Counties League on Saturday.

The Boars had previously been knocked out of the Aldershot Senior Cup when they were beaten 2-0 at Knaphill on Tuesday of last week.

Eversley & California were due to play Walton & Hersham in the Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup last night, before returning to league action at home to Ash United this coming Saturday (3pm).
