BINFIELD FC manager Roger Herridge has no intention of pressing the panic button despite losing 3-1 at home to Brimscombe & Thrupp on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

It was their fourth defeat in succession and in a short space of time the Moles have slipped from top of the Hellenic League to sixth.

“Two weeks ago people were saying good things about us and the same group of players have not become poor overnight,” said Herridge.

“More experienced or better teams even go through runs like we are having. That’s football for you – it gives you highs and horrible lows.

“Our upcoming games don’t get easier, but (I) have the utmost faith in this group of players who will learn from the last few weeks and come back stronger.”

Herridge certainly has no intention of quitting, saying: “The only pressure I am under is self imposed.

“This is a wonderful club with a great chairman, committee and supporters. I want to give them and my players the special moments that only winning can give – that’s what drives me on.”

Brimscombe had already hit the post through Jack Smith before they took a 10th-minute lead when, from 25 yards, Josh Jones unleashed a dipping volley high past keeper Garry Aulsberry.

It took Moles less than 10 minutes to draw level through a Liam Ferdinand penalty after Matt Jones had been fouled.

Binfield created a couple of good chances before falling behind again with three minutes of the first half remaining when Ollie Pitt curled a free-kick around the wall into the far corner.

Luke Scope and Jack White both went close to equalising, but on 55 minutes the visitors scored again with Jack Smith finding the bottom corner from 15 yards.

Matt Jones saw his deflected effort cleared off the visitors’ line and there was more woe for Binfield when Jack Broome was sent off after his second yellow card offence 20 minutes from time.

The Moles travel to Lydney in the league this Saturday (3pm) then host Flackwell Heath at Hill Farm Lane on Monday (7.45pm).
