FINCHAMPSTEAD’s difficult start to the Hellenic League Division One East campaign continued as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Headington Amateurs, a fourth defeat in six games.

Finchampstead took the lead on 32 minutes when Dan Blatchford found the net, only for Headington to equalise in first-half injury time when Jay Hill prodded home.

Finch continued to battle hard in the second half but slipped behind when Yannick Nkwanyuo smashed home a long-range stunner on 66 minutes.

The Oxfordshire side hit the cross-bar shortly after, but despite Pople drawing a good save from the Headington goalkeeper, the visitors hung on.

Finchampstead are due to host Sandhurst Town this coming Saturday.

  • WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook suffered a second consecutive home defeat as they lost 3-2 against AFC Aldermaston at Lowther Road.

The visitors took the lead in just the second minute when Michael Porter got on the scoresheet, but Sumas came back into the contest and deservedly levelled thanks to Josh Pearson.

Porter’s second put Aldermaston back in front on the stroke of half time, but the hosts levelled late in the second half thanks to an own goal.

There was further drama, though, as Porter completed his hat-trick on 88 minutes to cap a fine win for Aldermaston.

Wokingham & Emmbrook host Lydney Town in the Challenge Cup on Saturday (2.30pm).

  • GOALS from Casey Bocarro and Christopher Hurst gave Penn & Tylers Green a 2-0 win against Sandhurst Town.
  • EVERSLEY & California lost 4-3 after extra time at Buckingham Town in the FA Vase on Saturday.

The Boars were due to visit Bagshot in the RPM Records Division One Challenge Cup last night, before hosting Epsom Athletic in their Combined Counties League Division One clash on Saturday (3pm).

Eversley are at home to Gosport Borough in their re-arranged Hampshire Senior Cup game next Tuesday (7.30pm).
