FINCHAMPSTEAD FC collected their second Hellenic League Division One East victory of the season with a 2-1 success at home to Chalfont Wasps.

The hosts began brightly and Greg Alexander’s early header looped over the bar, although at the other end Taighan Williams fired off a shot which went wide of the mark.

Finches were forced back temporarily but came back with an incoming cross which was just too high for Harry Swabey to reach.

As the game continued to go from end-to-end, Wasps’ Sean Cahill had a shot cleared off the line by Matt Wright, while Alexander’s header from a Finch corner was deflected behind.

Swabey twice worked goalkeeper Mark Sweeney before he also hit the crossbar, only to be forced off with an ankle injury shortly prior to the interval.

Chances continued to come and go at either end before Dominic Brown put the visitors in front with a sensational 40-yard effort, his dipping strike nestling in the far corner on 63 minutes.

Finchampstead levelled with a quarter of an hour remaining, however, when Dave Stephens curled a glorious free-kick into the top left-hand corner.

And they snatched all three points with a minute remaining when Richard Thomas found the back of the net.

Finchampstead are home to Headington Amateurs this Saturday (3pm).
