TWO goals in the final five minutes saw Wokingham & Emmbrook FC Oranges edge past Wargrave Wolves 4-2 in a thrilling East Berks Football Alliance U14s Division 6 clash on Saturday.

Wargrave took an early lead on a counter attack, but Wokingham levelled midway through the first half when Kai Evans finished well from a superb Oliver Vickers assist.

The score remained 1-1 until the break, but there were chances galore in the second half, with Wargrave regaining the lead on the hour mark.

However, Wokingham equalised straight from the restart when Matt Roberts fired home from James Starkey’s first-time cross.

Wargrave hit back and were unfortunate not to go in front for a third time when a long-range effort struck George Watkins’ crossbar before another went just flew in ches over.

But Wokingham survived and went on to snatch victory with two late goals.

They went 3-2 up with three minutes to go when Nathan Mulvaney netted with a powerful header from an Evans corner.

Then two minutes later Wokingham grabbed a fourth goal, Luke Johnson winning possession in midfield before feeding Evans whose stunning effort from outside the box flew into the Wargrave net.

Evans was outstanding all game with two goals and assist, though it was Mulvaney who won the man-of-the-match honours for his excellent header and strong all-round play.

Meanwhile, Wokingham & Emmbrook FC Sumas managed to secure a tight 1-0 victory at newly-promoted Whitegrove Hurricanes in East Berks Football Alliance U16s Division 1 on Saturday.

A lively first half saw Sumas keeper Ellis Wisdom make a number of key saves and Casey Starke struck the Hurricanes post at the other end.

It remained goalless at the interval, but Wokingham eventually got the breakthrough with 65 minutes gone.

Starke hit a perfect free-kick into the Hurricanes box and midfielder Cameron Davies was on hand to stab the ball home.

Hurricanes fought back strongly from there, but they failed to find a way past the excellent Wisdom, who was named man of the match.

And Wokingham almost doubled their lead late on when Mike Valdambrini hit the woodwork.
