A YEAR after resigning as their manager, Mark Tallentire returned to Burnham last Saturday and added to their misery by guiding Bracknell Town to a 5-2 win in the Bluefin Sports Hellenic League Cup, writes Dave Wright.

Having made a number of key signings, the Robins are now enjoying a good run, while Burnham, currently without a manager, have lost every game this season.

But he did offer some sympathy for his former club.

“I enjoyed my time here [Burnham] as manager and I want to put that on record,” said Tallentire.

“It was a shame the way it all ended, but that’s life in football. People move on and I’ve got a job to do at Bracknell and I am fully focused on doing that.

“At the moment they [Burnham] are in a point of transition, if you can call it that, and it is difficult to get results.

“But if they show the same sort of spirit, fight and determination that they did in the second half, they should be able to improve.”

That improvement saw them score twice to reduce their deficit to 4-2, but the confident Robins always had the game until control.

“We were disappointed to have conceded two goals and I thought we were a little bit sloppy in the first 10 minutes of the second half,” added Tallentire.

“Obviously they have gone in at half-time and had a few harsh words I assume and came out for the second half with a little bit of vigour and we gave away a couple of scrappy goals.

“But I am not going to harp on about that, as by then the game was over as a contest.

“When you are three up after 25 minutes, it was difficult for our lads to keep going.

“But we came here to a job and we did that.”

Joe Grant, with a goal in each half, TJ Bohane, Seb Bowerman and Kensley Maloney were the men on target for the visitors, who led 3-0 at half-time of this first-round tie.

The Robins boss continued: “We put together some good moves but we didn’t always capitalise.

“When it came to corners and crosses in particular, they didn’t deal with them particularly well, but we did not get enough quality balls into that area of the pitch in the second half and that is something we can work on.

“But it is another win for us and it keeps us ticking along nicely.”
