BINFIELD FC continued their perfect start to the Hellenic Premier season with a battling 1-0 victory at Royal Wootton Bassett Town on Saturday.

Roger Herridge’s men secured their fourth win in four matches with a gutsy display away from home.

Strong winds made it difficult for both sides to play free-flowing football and chances were at a premium all afternoon.

But it was Wootton Bassett who created the first real opening midway through the first half when Moles keeper Garry Aulsberry was forced to make a vital stop.

But Moles almost broke the deadlock moments before the break when Liam Ferdinand flashed a dangerous shot across the face of goal after an excellent run from the in-form player.

Nevertheless, Moles did not have to wait long before taking the lead four minutes after the interval.

The hosts looked in little danger when Jamie Connor picked up the ball, but the midfielder cut in from the left before hammering an unstoppable shot from 25 yards into the bottom corner.

In the meantime, Sean Moore replaced Tom Williams for his Binfield debut before striker Ferdinand went close to doubling their lead when his shot on the turn was blocked by a defender.

And even though Moles survived a scare when a late Wootton Bassett header flew narrowly wide, they deserved to take all three points and continue their fine start to the campaign.

Binfield entertain Tuffley Rovers at Hill Farm Lane this Saturday (3pm ko).

Then on Monday the Moles travel to Burnham who sacked their manager, ex-Bracknell Town boss Dave Tuttle, earlier this week.
