WHITEGROVE showed nerves of steel to overcome P&IC United to win the Berks & Bucks Sunday Junior Trophy on penalties.

P&IC United took an early lead at Abingdon Town's ground on Sunday with a thunderous shot, but Whitegrove equalised soon after with a powerful drive from Jim Hardy.

Bracknell Town & District Sunday Football League outfit Whitegrove flew out of the blocks in the second half and went 2-1 up when substitute Billy Bryce held off his marker and slotted into the bottom corner.

However, P&IC United hit back and drew level with 15 minutes remaining to send the final to extra time.

Neither team could muster a winner in the extra 30 minutes as the tie went to penalties.

Whitegrove took the initiative when keeper Josh Woodley saved P&IC United's first two penalties.

Ben Poynter and Billy Bryce then converted theirs to put Whitegrove 2-0 up before Edward Jackson-Sankey and Levi Tippett also netted from the spot to secure the trophy in front of a bumper crowd of around 175.

The match was superbly refereed by Paul Dick from Thatcham and his assistants.

Abingdon Town groundsman, Tom Larman, was also commended for producing an excellent playing surface, while £160 was collected for B&BFA charity, Air Ambulance.
