MANAGER Roger Herridge admitted he was forced to use a few choice words to galvanise his Binfield players on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

The Moles trailed 2-0 to relegation-threatened Tuffley Rovers at half-time in their Uhlsport Hellenic League game.

But Roger’s roasting did the trick, as they hit back to win the game 3-2 with goals from Liam Ferdinand (2) and Josh Howell.

“I told them (at half time) they were not letting me down, but letting themselves down although I still thought we were probably marginally the better team in the first half,” said Herridge, who had seen his side win 5-2 at Tuffley only two weeks earlier.

“If we were playing a better side at 2-0 down we would probably have gone on and conceded three or four goals. I questioned them (players) at half-time when I had to use a bit of industrial language – in the nicest possible way.
“We were disappointed at half time; it just wasn’t good enough and we told the players that.”

He certainly got his message through to them, as they upped their game in the second half to win quite comfortably in the end.

Herridge added: “With due respect to Tuffley, we should be beating sides like them far more comfortably than we did today.

“If you look at the number of chances we had in the whole game, we could have won five or 6-2.

“Our attitude was a lot better in the second half and they (Tuffley) were hanging on at the end.”

Binfield, who were due to play their-arranged Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy quarter-final tie at Flackwell Heath last night (Tuesday) entertain Lydney Town this Saturday and then Oxford City Nomads on Monday evening.

Both are mid-table clashes, giving the ninth-placed Moles an opportunity to improve their record at Hill Farm Lane.

Herridge commented: “Our home form is nowhere near our away form at the moment. Why? I don’t know. But we travel really well.”
