ROGER Herridge, the usually mild-mannered Binfield manager, has said sorry for two uncharacteristic outbursts during the 2-2 draw with Wokingham & Emmbrook on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

He exchanged words with Sumas joint manager Matt Eggleston as they made their way to the dressing room at half-time, and followed that up with a few more words when his side netted their second goal.

Herridge, who admitted Eggleston is not his favourite person in football, explained: “I apologise for my reaction at half time to him and when we scored the equaliser.

“Sometimes you say and do things in the heat of the moment – it is just the way it is.”

It was a testing afternoon for his team, as they played for more than three quarters of this derby with only 10 players.

Moles skipper Alex Luis received his marching orders when he brought down Sumas striker Luke Scope just outside the penalty.

Herridge added: “My players deserve some credit as it would have been easy to collapse when going down to 10. But we re-organised and grew into the game. We didn’t give up and kept going.”

Wokingham’s joint manager Dan Bateman felt that Binfield were fortunate not to have had a second player sent off He said: “The referee later apologised for not sending off their No. 9 (Brad Brown) in the first half. He had already been booked when he kicked out at one of my players.

“If they had gone down to nine men then it would have been a long way for them to come back.”

Bateman admitted he was disappointed his side didn’t win after what he described as a “really good game of football.”

Josh Howell cancelled out Luke Scope’s early opener for the Sumas, with both goals coming inside the opening 12 minutes.

The visitors regained the lead again through Scope, only for Jemel Johnson to grab a late equaliser.

Both sides had chances to win the game with the best falling for Moles substitute Mark Jordan in the last few seconds when he headed Howell’s cross wide of an open goal.
