BINFIELD FC suffered a third defeat in four Hellenic Premier matches after a 2-0 loss at struggling Brackley Town Saints.

Roger Herridge’s men dominated the majority of the game on Saturday but lacked a killer instinct in the final third.

And they paid a heavy price for it as relegation-threatened Brackley picked up only their fifth league win of the season to boost their survival hopes.

Moles created eight clear chances in the first half alone but only managed to test the Brackley keeper Dan Farrell twice.

Their decision making and shooting accuracy were both found wanting on the day.

Moles’ Liam Ferdinand did test Farrell early on when he shot through a crowd of players, but the Brackley stopper was equal to it.

Binfield continued to impress in open play, but they failed to hit the target from a string of shots and headers, much to Brackley’s relief.

The only real scare at the back during the opening 45 minutes was from a 25-yard free kick that dipped just over Nathan Silver’s crossbar.

Silver had been a virtual spectator up to that point, while Farrell continued to make some vital saves at the other end.

The Brackley keeper had to be at his very best to keep out a low shot from Reid Brown following a Jack Gibbs free kick.

It proved a turning point in the match as Brackley snatched the lead with 20 minutes remaining.

A good break down the right ended with the impressive Matthew Hammond beating Silver to the ball before chipping the stranded Moles keeper for the opening goal.

To compound Binfield’s misery, James Knight was sent off moments later for a second yellow card, leaving the visitors to fight for an equaliser with 10 men.

Sadly, as Moles pushed bodies forward, they were caught on the counter attack and Logan Kelling doubled Brackley’s lead with a clinical finish across Silver to round off a disappointing afternoon.

The defeat leaves Binfield eighth in the Hellenic Premier table.

They will aim to bounce back from their loss at Brackley this Saturday when they host rivals Wokingham & Emmbrook at Hill Farm Lane in a Boxing Day derby (1pm kick-off).
