WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook were brought back down to earth with a bang as they crashed 5-0 at fellow strugglers Milton United in the Hellenic League Premier Division, writes Richard Ashton.
Dan Bateman and Matt Eggleston’s basement boys had beaten Abingdon United 5-0 the week before, but a much-changed side were well beaten in Oxfordshire.
The Sumas had a glorious opportunity to take the lead midway through the first half when Luke Scope missed a one-on-one, but they fell behind when Niall Hodgkins headed home on the stroke of half time.
Tom Austin doubled the lead when he arrived from the right wing to strike the ball home with the outside of his right boot.
Wokingham continued to battle but struggled to make any clear-cut chances, and they suffered a hammer blow when an Austin shot deflected into the back of the net to make it 3-0.
The Sumas continued to use the wind as they tried to get back in the game, playing most of the second period in the Milton half.
They twice hit the bar but Sumas fell even further behind when substitute Daniele Piscopo’s composed finish secured his first goal for Milton.
The Italian then added a second late on to complete the 5-0 scoreline.
Wokingham & Emmbrook travel to Oxford City Nomads on Saturday (3pm), before travelling to Ascot United on Tuesday (7.45pm).


BINFIELD’S Hellenic League Premier Division game at Lydney Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The Moles – who were set to hand former Wokingham & Emmbrook defender Mark O’Connell a debut – arrived in Gloucestershire following a two-hour journey before the game was cancelled.
Binfield host Highworth Town on Saturday (3pm) before visiting Abingdon United next Tuesday (7.45pm).


FINCHAMPSTEAD’S visit to Wantage Town Reserves was also called off due to the wet weather.
They return to Hellenic League Division One East on Saturday, with Holyport the visitors to Memorial Park (2pm).


EVERSLEY & California’s fine run of form came to a shuddering halt as they suffered two defeats in five days.
The Boars were beaten 3-0 at home by Abbey Rangers in the Combined Counties League Division One on Saturday, having previously been defeated 3-1 at Dorking in the Southern Combination Cup on Tuesday of last week.
Dan Bransbury put the hosts in front inside the first minute, and Eversley’s Brad Smith missed a penalty just before the break.
Aaron Voller equalised early in the second half, but further goals from Jimmy Brazil and Bransbury saw Dorking through.
The Boars travel to Bedfont & Feltham this Saturday (3pm).


SANDHURST Town’s Combined Counties League Division One game at Dorking was postponed on Saturday.
They were due to play Horsley in the Southern Combination Cup on Tuesday, before returning to league action at home to Worcester Park (3pm).
