FINCHAMPSTEAD lost their perfect home record in the Hellenic League Division One East as they were beaten 3-2 by Bicester Town.

Harry Swabey and Garry Callaway had early chances for the home side, with goalkeeper Ryan Watt doing well to keep out the latter’s header.

Greg Alexander was the next to try his luck for Finch, but his powerful, low effort missed to the left.

Bicester took the lead somewhat against the run of play when Kieran Scott received a cross from Danny Bone, and he struck the ball past Tom Bryant in the 34th minute.

Watt was again called into action to deny Freddie Barron, while at the other end, Finch had to make a trio of blocks to ensure they did not fall further behind.

The hosts levelled matters when Paul Abbott picked out Greg Alexander, and he shot across Watt to find the net.

However, Bicester went back in front just before the break when Gavin Kidd took advantage of a free-kick to beat Bryant.

The Oxfordshire side extended their lead immediately after the break as an attempted clearance rebounded off Bone’s body and into the net to make it 3-1 in the 46th minute.

Swabey tested Watt with another effort, while Bicester could not take advantage of a succession of corners at the other end.

Finch boss Jon Laugharne made a trio of substitutions and replacement Ben Winship pulled a goal back in the 82nd minute, but after captain Adam Barnard was sent off, they were unable to snatch a deserved equaliser.

Finch visit Wantage Town Reserves on Saturday (3pm).
