BINFIELD FC dished up a treat for their fans on Saturday thanks to a decision made by Roger Herridge while he was at his lunch break.

The Moles manager chose Kensley Maloney to fill a gap in his team and saw the youngster net a hat-trick in the 6-0 thumping of Highmoor Ibis.

After the game Herridge explained: "It was at lunch time yesterday (Friday) that I looked at the squad I had available for the game.

"I was missing Liam Ferdinand and Danny Horscroft and I thought that if Ken was available ?I would include him if he wasn't wanted by Slough."

The former John Madejski Academy scholar, who was highly rated when he played for Reading Town a couple of seasons ago, is dual registered with Slough Town, the Southern League Premier Division side.

But even Herridge could have dreamt that Maloney would have such an impact in his second start at Hill Farm Lane.

On paper it looked a tough game, coming just a week after Binfield had crashed 5-0 at Kidlington and with Highmoor just above them in the Hellenic League table.

But the Maloney-inspired Moles turned on a superb display of attacking football as they eased to victory.

"Kensley is a quality player and he has done very well," said Herridge. "He will have enjoyed his hat-trick and so can go back to Slough in good heart. We scored six and it could easily have been seven or eight. We looked very good going forward and it was great to keep a clean sheet as we haven't had too many of those this season."

Herridge added: "I know Highmoor were missing a few players, but then so were we. But no matter what side they put out they will prove competitive.

"I thought we were a bit slow to start, but we managed to get our noses in front although we got a bit sloppy towards the end of the half.

"With players like Sanchez (Commack) in their side they are always going to be a threat and if Highmoor had got a goal back it could have become a different game.

"In happened in reverse to for us at Kidlington last week, but after getting a third I thought we had the game under control and could have scored more.

"There were some very good individual performances. Anthony White (Highmoor) had a big physical presence but I thought Lewis (Leonetti) had him in his pocket at centre half."

Herridge continued: "When all the players come back it will be a tough decision as to who will start. We've got several players to come back, including Ali Dickie and Bradley Brown who were both playing for the reserves today. So team selection is going to be tough in the next few weeks."

Herridge is likely to make changes for this Saturday's Bluefin Sports Cup second-round tie at Gloucester-side Moreton, who lie third in Division 2 West with 14 points from seven games.

Herridge said: "We certainly won't be underestimating them, but it might be an opportunity to look at a couple of youngsters like Reid Brown."

The game kicks-off at 1.45pm.
