SUNNINGDALE & Wentworth remain on top of the Premier Division, but their lead has been cut as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Golden Farmer.

Farmer took an early lead when Carl Wyatt was adjudged to have been fouled just inside the box – a decision strongly disputed by the visitors – but to no avail.

The spot-kick was stroked into the bottom left corner by Nick Bale, giving Lee Barefoot no chance.

Sunningdale got back on level terms when top scorer Rob Ellis was on hand to tuck away Paul Blanchard’s pass.

Farmer then won another penalty early in the second half when again Wyatt was the victim, this time a push as a cross came in, but the chance went begging as Bale blazed his kick high over the bar.

Jesse Todd came closest to finding a winner for Sunningdale on a difficult surface when, with minutes to spare, his shot had Farmer keeper Martin Brotherhood rolling back the years to make an exquisite save, diving low to his left to palm the ball away for a corner.

A draw didn’t really do either side any favours and Binfield Club Athletic took advantage to move to within three points of Sunningdale, but having played a game more, after beating FC Meta 3-2.
